THE PRESIDENT
President Angela
The President of SI Swansea for the year April 2010 until April 2011 is Mrs. Angela Ball of Sketty in Swansea.
President Angela's main charity during this year is Maggie's -- a high quality innovative support service for those affected by cancer. The new Maggie's centre, based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, will be a calm, uplifting drop-in centre where anyone affected by cancer in South West Wales can go when they need support. Meanwhile, the interim service is already seeing more than 50 people every week. Users of Maggie's service say that the help provided by professional staff at Maggie's makes a significant difference to how they live with and through cancer. As the number of people living with cancer increases, the support available becomes ever more important. A diagnosis of cancer is surely one of the most difficult challenges that any one of us may face in a lifetime. Your support for Maggie's will be much appreciated throughout President Angela's year and beyond.
To raise funds, events throughout the year have already been organized including 'Strawberry Fizz and Pimms' on Saturday 10th July and a Harvest Concert on Saturday 25th September--this is sure to be an entertaining evening with The Gwalia Singers and The Band of the Royal British Legion of Wales. The concert will be held at St. Paul's Church in Sketty at 7pm. President Angela will also hold a luncheon at Swansea's Marriott Hotel on Sunday November 7th. If you are interested in any of the above events, please speak to any member of SI Swansea or use the e mail address on this website to make contact.
President of SI Swansea during 2009 until April 2010 was Viv Hanford of Morriston Swansea who supported the Alzheimer's Society and Wales Air Ambulance.
Events to raise funds for President Viv's charities included an afternoon tea held at Llewellyn Hall, Penllergaer. A lovely young lady, Felicity Panniers, played the flute and there were many photographs showing past events organised by SI Swansea. As the club has been in existence for more than 75 years-(75 years of projects, charitable work and making a difference!),-there were plenty of interesting photographs on display during the afternoon.
In addition to the above, President Viv and members of SI Swansea were involved in ongoing local and regional projects, and the national conference- held not far away at Cardiff during October 2009-Wales welcomed Soroptimists everywhere.
Many thanks to all for supporting Past President Viv, President Angela and SI Swansea, and for your interest in the work of Soroptimists.
