Soroptimist International of Swansea - Team Work

OUR WORK

Our work is called 'Programme Action' -----Words Whisper, Actions Shout!

At SI Swansea our projects include the collection of new household goods and toiletries, used spectacles and mobile phones (amongst other things). These items are then re-distributed for use by charities - for example to provide essentials for women and their young families needing Swansea's local refuge due to domestic abuse.

We support numerous local and national charities through our fundraising. During the first half of 2009,substantial donations were made to Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID Cymru), Fairbridge (young people needing support), Swansea Womens' Centre and, via our friendship link with SI Dundee, to SI Kolkota South, India. During 2008 donations were made to Barnardos Cymru, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Swansea Carers Centre. We have a special link with the Princess Royal Trust for Carers, supporting the role of carers. We have also donated Christmas gifts to numerous local charities and have organised enjoyable fund raising events to raise all the necessary funds.

Partnerships are a recurring theme. We support international projects such as the Kenya Project - this is organised by students at Swansea College who are helping to rebuild a school in Kenya. At Swansea, we join together with other Soroptimist clubs to try to improve the lives of those less fortunate. We support projects in the Wales South Region and those organised by Soroptimists internationally.
